The Nurture Centre is a safe structured environment. Children work in small groups supported by a nurture network trained teacher and assistant. In addition to the nurture centre teacher there are 6 other members of the school teaching team nurture network trained, this ensures at least one in each key stage team who is experienced in the philosophy's. They are given the opportunity to re-visit early nurturing experiences to enhance their emotional well-being.
The Nurture Centre aims to develop the social, emotional and cognitive skills necessary for the children to become successful learners in school. The children will develop their own abilities and then become more confident, and responsive to others. They can take pride in behaving well and achieving their full potential.
The Nurture Centre is available to children from all Key Stages. Groups are organised by age and the children enjoy up to three sessions per week of social and emotional activities.
Teaching staff and assistants model positive relationships and there is an emphasis on the development of language and communication skills. The key social skills needed to be successful are taught.
