An interesting Egg-speriment! 🧫🦠🔬🦷🪥

2nd May 2021

Year 7 have been learning about the Victorians, and discovered that they didn’t really know about how to look after their teeth. They even had their barbers remove teeth for them!

We carried out an experiment to find out if fizzy and sugary drinks really do rot your teeth! We placed eggs in plastic cups with 10 different types of drink, including Coke, Lucozade, dilute, Monster, Ribena and Sukie. We used eggs because they contain calcium phosphate, just like human teeth! We read the packaging of each drink and found out how much sugar was in each one and predicted which egg would be the most damaged.  We left the eggs in the drinks for one week, then observed the changes that had happened.  It’s safe to say we were shocked at the results! Almost all of the eggs had discoloured and some were covered in a white substance that felt like salt or sugar. One of the eggs even cracked! We all agreed that brushing your teeth regularly is extremely important!
